The introduction of the Cougar finally gave Mercury its own “pony car”. Slotted between the Ford Mustang and the Ford Thunderbird, the Cougar was the performance icon and eventually the icon for the Mercury name for several decades. 1970 was the last year of the first generation Cougar.
1970 Mercury Cougar, rare “Houndstooth” edition. Original inside and out including the elegant vinyl top. Has “M” code 351 Cleveland engine, power drum brakes and automatic transmission. Many new parts including Crager SS wheels with BF Goodrich tires, there’s even a matching spare.
Top end/heads and manifolds machined heads have hardened seats, new carburetor, and electronic ignition.

Pauline Trigere French born American fashion designer commissioned to design a special edition trim package. Now known as the “Houndstooth” Cougar. The vinyl roof and matching interior came in to colors black and gold or black and white.
